UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Staff Physician - General Anesthesiologist for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University Of New Mexico School of Medicine. This opportunity is on-call PRN (0.01FTE) position located at the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) - Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC) campus, Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine. Successful candidates will join a group of experienced Anesthesiologists.

Summary

Under indirect supervision, provides and manages direct health care for a specified patient population. Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking a board certified Anesthesiologist for an on-call physician to teach and practice at UNM Hospital and UNM Outpatient Surgical and Imaging Services center (OSIS). Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine comprises of 50 faculty anesthesiologists, 31 residents, 6 fellows, and 41 CRNA/CAAs covering 28 operating rooms, and 7 NORA locations, and perform 24,000+ anesthesia cases a year.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Staff Physician General Anesthesiology:

Medical doctor with 3 to 5 years of directly related experience which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty. State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification; Medical Specialty License or Certification; Board Certified or Board Eligible in specified area of medical specialty. Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology or within three years of residency and active in the certification process. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must hold unrestricted medical license
  2. Must hold M.D. or equivalent
  3. Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology or within three years of residency and active in the certification process

Duties and Responsibilities of a Staff Physician General Anesthesiology:

  • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
  • Trains and supervises medical students and residents engaged in specialty activities and procedures, as appropriate.
  • May manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function.
  • Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
