UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for an Early Intervention Specialist to join our Center for Development and Disability (CDD) team. This opportunity it a full-time day shift opening located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Minimum $41,662 - Midpoint $52,062*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

Minimum Job Requirements of an Early Intervention Specialist:

Bachelor’s degree and one year experience working with children/families in a related activity. Completed degree from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

This position will be located at the Center for Development and Disability (CDD). Established in 1990, CDD is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The CDD FOCUS program is seeking an Early Intervention Specialist (EIS) who provides Part C Early Intervention services, including service coordination and developmental intervention, for infants, toddlers, and their families.

The FOCUS program is an early intervention program that provides families with early intervention services and collaborates with UNM Family and Community medical clinics to provide access to comprehensive family medical care. Most of the families served by the program are considered at risk due to medical, social, and/or environmental difficulties, including but not limited to parental substance use, untreated mental health difficulties, and poverty. All services are provided from a family-centered, relationship-based, comprehensive support service philosophy. Services are provided primarily in family homes or in community settings near the family's home. As noted, services are also provided as part of child and family medical clinics. The majority of referrals to FOCUS are newborn infants with prenatal substance exposure and/or medical difficulties at birth. The selected candidate must travel within a three-county catchment area and perform home visits.

The position requires flexibility, teamwork, and the following skills:

The ability to

• engage and partner with families who may mistrust systems and agencies due to previous experiences;
• partner with families using a trauma-informed, non-judgmental and compassionate approach.

Knowledge of

• early child development and in working with parents and children birth to three, including infants;
• community resources, including resources for meeting basic needs, housing, behavioral health counseling, and other needs presented by families;
• state and federal reporting requirements.

Experience with developmental assessments of infants and toddlers.

Capacity for effective collaboration with community partners.

Strong organizational skills and capacity to meet program documentation and billing requirements.

• case management in the area of substance use and/or behavioral/mental health.

Home visiting experience.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, including medical terminology.

Summary of an Early Intervention Specialist:

The Early Intervention Specialist provides developmentally based early intervention and/or early prevention services, service coordination, and case management support to women and families during pregnancy and through the third year or fifth year of a child’s life. The EIS functions as part of a multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary team and participates in standardized evaluations and/or ongoing assessment of children’s developmental, social and emotional, and family functioning in collaboration with other team disciplines. The EIS participates in child and family medical visits and supports access to medical care and other needed services. The EIS provides linkages to other critical community resources and is knowledgeable about those available in the community served. This individual works with high risk populations that include, but are not limited to families and children impacted by substance abuse, caregiver mental health concerns, poverty , and other medical conditions placing children at risk for poor developmental and health outcomes. The EIS provides services in a variety of home and community settings. This individual provides direct services in support of the optimal development and functioning of children and families using an evidence-informed model and/or practice parameters as defined by the program and funder. The EIS works under administrative, clinical/reflective, and field supervision provided by the program manager or his or her designee.

Duties and Responsibilities of an Early Intervention Specialist:

1. Provides direct services to families in home and community settings using a standard practice model.
2. Participate in community and family group activities in support of program goals.
3. Conduct caregiver, child and family assessments.
4. Develop family written family service plans.
5. Provide and document services in adherence to required timelines and standards set by the program and funder.
6. Maintain a caseload of client families as required by program standards.
7. Designs and implements developmentally appropriate individual and/or group activities and learning opportunities according to individual needs and learning styles.
8. Document all services delivered, include entry of client information and progress notes into an electronic database in a timely and accurate manner in compliance with all UNM HSC/HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
9. Participate in training activities as required by the program and funder.
10. Participate in regular reflective supervision and/or consultation in support of program quality and skill development.
11. Performs routine cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance of materials and equipment.
