Project Manager - Business Development

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Project Manager to join our Business Development team. This opportunity is a full-time day shift opening located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This position is a hybrid work environment.  Applicants must be able to work from offsite with Medical Group supplied tools, as well as in the office.  Amount of time working off site versus in the office is determined by organizational need. 

Projects that this position may support include, but are not limited to, strategic planning and implementation, strategic partnership development, construction projects, real estate transactions, and clinic openings.  In addition to these primary functions, the position may also support the health system with ad hoc project management such as creation and implementation of processes related to areas such as new laws, regulations, and billing departments.


Under general supervision, this position leads in the development, planning, and management of departmental assignments, achieves project objectives within established deadlines, and maintains project budget. Responsibilities include overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, monitoring, communication, and completion/closing of specific projects ensuring consistency with organizational strategy, quality, commitments, and goals.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Project Manager:

Bachelorís degree in a relevant field, with at least 5 years of directly related experience in project management and certificates in project management. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

PMP certification preferred

Duties and Responsibilities of a Project Manager:

  1. Uses independent judgement and collaboration to plan and coordinate project scope and deliverables. Takes projects from original concept through final implementation, integrating structured project management methodology. Ensures that realistic project, quality, change control and risk management processes are established and maintained; makes recommendations and provides updates to senior leadership on project progress.
  2. Provides practice and project leadership to the project team, and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed parameters.
  3. May participate in departmental management team; may supervise or provide functional direction to assigned staff.
  4. Participates in research, develops strategic analysis, an well as initial proposal process for large scale, projects of advanced complexity; projects are typically in support of organizational strategic initiatives as directed by senior leadership.
  5. Works with senior leadership in developing project funding source; monitors costs, timescales and resources used, and takes appropriate action where these deviate from agreed-on tolerances.
  6. Manages the project change control procedure, and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are approved. Works with all project participants to ensure that changes to the work environment, as a result of any project, are fully examined and processed according to established change management processes.
  7. Acts as representative of the project team for the project management aspect when providing project status to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  8. Creates and facilitates communications for project teams, sponsors, and organization constituents. Provides regular and accurate reports to senior management and stakeholders as appropriate.
  9. Maintains current of knowledge with respect to evolving methodologies for technical project execution and may lead the adoption of new methods.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Operating under the umbrella of the Medical Group, the Strategic/Business Development department works to complete both the strategic health systemís initiatives as well as mission driven opportunities.  The department works to transition strategic goals and opportunities to operations via a data driven project management structure that has been useful for all entities within the health system.
