Program Operations Director

The UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Program Operations Director to join our Truman Health Services Clinic. This opportunity is a full-time, in-office position, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.



Working directly under the authorization and supervision of the Medical Director or other appropriate UNMMG Sr. Management official, manages and coordinates a major program or set of programs established to address a key area of specialized need within the UNM Medical Group, Inc. (UNMMG) and the community. Provides advanced professional/technical leadership, consultation, and expertise within the program's area of focus, as well as day-to-day administrative and functional management of the program's activities and staff. Sets strategic direction, develops and implements work scope and related operational policies and procedures; establishes funding, and provides operational planning, budgeting, and assessment. Programs/projects managed are of key operational impact, both within and external to the organization, and are typically revenue-generating and/or grant-funded from a major funding source or series of funding sources. These programs will typically focus on specific populations.


Minimum Job Requirements of a Program Operations Director:

Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; OR Bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Program Operations Director::

  1. Provides direction and integrative coordination in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive UNMMG program.
  2. Establishes and implements short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness through the establishment and maintenance of a data management system.
  3. Working with Clinical Practice Excellence and the Medical Director, develops and manages a Quality Management Program which identifies needs and effects changes required for improvement.
  4. Serves as a principal point of collaboration, leadership, and expertise to both internal and external constituencies on professional and operational matters pertaining to the mission, goals, objectives, and work scope of the program.
  5. Designs, implements, and evaluates organization and staffing to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives of the program; recruits, employs, trains, and manages professional/technical and support staff on both a professional and administrative basis.
  6. Provides technical leadership and direction to subordinate staff, program constituencies and community organizations and representatives within a broadly specified area of professional knowledge and expertise.
  7. Identifies and solicits local, state, federal, and/or international funding sources for services and programs; provides leadership in planning, development, and implementation of strategies and initiatives for generating program resources.
  8. Working in conjunction with the Medical Director and UNMMG Administration/Contracts, plans, implements and oversees internal and external contracts, ensures compliance with all contract terms.
  9. Designs and directs marketing efforts for the organization’s programs; develops branding and new business initiatives, and represents the organization to various institutional divisions as well as externally to the media, governmental agencies, prospective funding agencies and individuals, prospective vendors, and/or a range of constituencies within the community at large.
  10. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  11. Recommends and participates in the development of UNMMG policies and procedures; may serve on planning and policy-making committees.
  12. Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with UNMMG, state, and federal laws, organizational policies, and regulations.
  13. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Truman Health Services is a NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home which provides the highest level of care and latest treatment options for New Mexicans living with HIV, requiring gender services, or seeking PrEP. We offer a variety of treatment services utilizing a holistic approach towards supporting our patients' medical, social, and mental health needs.
